I had to use that title. As I was walking into Lowes the other day, a woman came running out to the truck yelling, “they gots raspberry bushes!!” :)

    diy disasters

    29 March 2010

I wanted to put 3 chrome sconces in our bathroom downstairs, but for some reason, chrome seems to be triple the price of brushed nickel or oil rubbed bronze. Soooo, I think, why not just spray paint them, Melissa? I bought this one for $14.99 at the Home Depot ( I actually bought 3, since I was sure they would turn out fabulous)march 2010 006 and spray painted them with spray chrome from the auto section like I had seen Lisa LaPorta do on Designed to Sell once. Sometimes I wonder why they don’t show more close-ups on that show. Hmmm…

Lindsay is hosting her $5 dollar challenge and how could I not participate? You know I love finding the possibilities lurking at the dollar store! Here’s what I came back from the Dollar Tree with:

    what you don’t do…

    22 March 2010

is just as important as what you do. I truly believe this. There are so many good things in life to choose from. It’s hard choosing the best things for ourselves and our families, but as we all know, something’s gotta give. The perfect woman who does everything doesn’t exist. And if she did, she just wouldn’t be very much fun. I’m convinced of that. One of my very favorite Simple Mom posts of all time is The Great Myth. Go read it. There is also a wonderful discussion over at Angie’s. I told her I would respond in a post that I’ve been meaning to write forever. So here we go~
In Tsh fashion, I’m sharing some things I don’t do to make room for the things I’d rather do:
I don’t sew. I wish I did. Someday I want to, but right now, my glue gun and hemming tape are best friends.
I don’t scrapbook. I used to, but I didn’t love it. Now, I just load my family pictures to our family blog and call it good. The plan is to publish the blog into a book every few years. But I’m really behind with that too, so we’ll see. :)
Ironing? What’s that? I threw out any shirt of my husband’s that didn’t look great after a few minutes in the dryer with a wet cloth.
The PTA hates me. I know I’m on their black list. I haven’t signed up to help with anything for the past year.

it’s the most wonderful time of the year…

    17 March 2010

    Because these are out:

    image from flickr

Cadbury mini eggs. My favorite candy of the whole year, by  a hundred thousand miles. My friend calls them crack bury eggs because she swears they lace those crunchy shells with something. I think she’s right. This is not my picture, because I cannot keep them in the house. If a bag is open, I finish it off. It’s such a good thing that they only come out once a year. My wicked sister in law, Kristine always saves me bags for my birthday.

I even bought my Easter candy early last year and took it down to my neighbor’s house and instructed her to keep it hidden for me so I wouldn’t eat it all. I called her the night before Easter around 10:00 to come get it. She gasped and said she would bring them down in a little bit. She had eaten all of the mini eggs and forgotten to get more, so she was driving all around Lubbock, Texas at 11:00 p.m. trying to find them. She made a fantastic discovery though: United supermarket (on Frankford & 82nd for all you Lubbock girls) had already marked their Easter candy 75% off, so she got me 5 bags of mini eggs. Thanks a lot, Alison.

I’ve added a really super important informative poll on my sidebar >>>>>>>>>>>.

What is your favorite easter candy? My husband loves the Starburst jelly beans. I know some go ga-ga over the cream eggs. Some of you actually love Peeps. Vote for all-time your favorite. For you good, skinny girls who are swearing off sugar, hide your eyes.

And some more random info to add to this utterly useless post: Lowes and Home Depot have already switched to their summer hours (I think most are on this schedule~check before you head out!) so they’re open from 6 a.m. to 10 p.m. For me, that means I have a much better chance of going without the kids.

    Happy St. Pats!

    thrifty treasures

    15 March 2010

Rhoda’s thrifty treasures is back! image Yay! The last of the snow finally melted this last weekend, and I’m hoping it’s the end of it all. I haven’t seen any yard sales yet, but I have been stopping by the thrift store down the way from us. Here are some treasures I’ve found:
