We're tackling the family room this week, but I wanted to share a few things among friends before I'm off to paint:
Some of you have asked how I did my homemade Pottery Barn knock off chalkboard in the kitchen. I figured it would be easier to just post (complete with pictures, mind you!) than to email~here goes:
1. Here is my inspiration from PB. I loved it, but didn't love the $150 price tag.
2. Take an old, ugly painting. Can you see the one I used on the floor behind the table? I got it at a yard sale for $5.

There are still things to finish: finish attaching baseboards, seal the grout, put polyuerathane on the cabinets, touch up, etc., etc. but you get the idea!! We began in October, but as you know have had a few detours, so it has been a very LONG process. Sorry for the picture overload, but just imagine that you stopped by to see us and since this is exactly how my kitchen always

My husband installed the floor and I mopped it especially for y'all! If I could take back one appliance purchase, it would be my dishwasher. It is not a tall tub and I can barely fit any pots or pans on the bottom rack~so if you're in the market for a dishwasher, make sure it has a tall tub.

Okay, here are the beautiful before pictures. A brief history: this house was listed the weekend we came to Texas to find a house. The description said:
"this home needs everything--original owner and now deceased, has never had one update. Good bones, but dated deluxe. Now after saying that, seller will allow $15,000 to update; good street!!"
We laughed because we thought for sure it was just going to be full of smoke, pets, etc., and called it the "good bones" house and it was the last one we put on our list to look at. We walked in and I just knew this was our home~the bones were good and it was fun just had to think of possibilities, especially when we were given the cash to do it. So, the majority of our allowance has gone to the flooring, appliances, some windows, landscaping, and countertops throughout the home.

Gain Joyful Expressions Apple Mango Tango! I am a die hard Tide and April Fresh Downy girl, and am pretty particular about what my home and laundry smell like, but I got some of this at CVS when they were clearancing out the old bottle, and holy cow, I am hooked! It is so yummy and fresh! My husband asked me what the smell was in January when I switched~he loved it too. So now I have the detergent and the softener and am loving it. Just had to share...it is a perfect spring scent. Anything that can help me get through my laundry day ...
Mostly, I'm procrastinating finishing the kitchen... we're doing the tile backsplash this week, but the tile cutter scares me~I hate the sound of it. This is not good if we're planning on finishing this week. I really need to go to bed. Maybe it won't sound so bad during the day. :)
