Rabbit!
I’ve been keeping my eye out for an old Main Street sign since I saw this picture and fell in love:
(not sure of the source? it was in my inspiration file…)
I was picking up a folding banquet table on Craigslist that is going to be my work/craft table and while I was there, the couple asked if I’d be interested in anything else in their apartment since they were moving. This mirror caught my eye, and $10 later it was mine.
I thought it would be perfect in the downstairs bath as a back mirror, cuz girls like to see the back of their hair when they are getting ready, right? But it was plastic and it looked, well…plastic. We took out the mirror and for the frame,
Emily shared her 25 favorite fonts and where to download/buy them. (many are free!) You know I love quotes and fonts, so this was jackpot for me!
Advice for the Younger Me @ Joys of Home
About a year ago, we were getting some quotes on getting our basement finished, and I asked you all your thoughts on basements. Your comments were so helpful as we looked what to do with this:
I have had a thrifting dry spell.
Like….nothing. Dry as dirt. Nada.
And then bam! Thursday was jackpot. I hit 2 Goodwills and scored! Maybe these are all from one person dropping stuff off…who knows??
4 of these chairs, $3.99 each (I don’t understand our goodwill’s pricing. Some trashy things are like $99 and these were $4??) Two will go in the entryway, two in my daughter’s room…more on that later.
Michaels is having their same basket deal that I got last year! They are all 50% off, plus they have a coupon on Monday for an additional 20% off your entire purchase. This is the best deal for baskets I see during the year…just wanted to give you a heads up if you’re heading out…
Happy Presidents Day!
I was on my little Thursday night outing last night and got a little excited to see these in Target’s dollar spot:
I decided to do a little gallery wall in the bathroom downstairs.
This is a goodwill frame spray painted white, the soap sign is from forever ago (I think I actually got it through Chadwicks??) It used to have 3 hooks, but I bent them off.
So, we’re back downstairs in the bathroom. You’ve never been introduced to this room before, have you? I will have to share our finished basement plans with you, but for now I was content to get a little shelf up.
I’ll pass.
nope.
uh-uh.
This is what melts my butter:
I love you, honey.
Happy Valentines Day!

This was first published in 1983, but I loved it and thought it would be appropriate for Valentines.
20 Ways to Make a Good Marriage Great
by Richard W. Linford
1. Night and Morning Prayer … to say thanks, to ask for help in your marriage and family, to worship together.
2. A Weekly Planning Meeting … to discuss the calendar, talk over needs and problems, decide priorities and next steps.
3. A Daily Phone Call or Personal Conversation … to say “I love you,” to touch base, to discuss the day, to show you care.
4. A Weekly Date … to a favorite park, a concert, the library, the gym; or staying home for a candlelight dinner, a game, or a mutual hobby.
5. Patience Regardless … of missed meals, tardiness, forgotten favors, a thoughtless remark, impatience.
6. Daily Service … helping with house or yard work, mending a piece of clothing, taking a turn with the sick baby, fixing a favorite meal. (Write it down. Do it!)
7. A Budget … to tie down income and expenses, help set financial goals, and give you control over your finances.
8. Listening … not only to what is said, but also to what is meant.
9. Regular Attendance … at church—and where possible—the temple.
10. Daily Scripture Reading … to learn the gospel, to receive inspiration for yourself and your marriage, to become more like Jesus.
11. Working Together … caring for a garden, painting a bedroom, washing the car, scrubbing floors, building a piece of furniture, writing a poem together, team teaching a class.
12. Forgiving Each Other … always learning from each other, trying a different way, being the first to make peace.
13. Courtesies … like saying please and thank you, not interrupting or belittling, not doing all the talking, continuing the niceties of courtship.
14. Soft and Kind Words … of tenderness, compassion, empathy.
15. Learning Together by … reading to each other, discussing ideas, taking a class.
16. Respecting … opinions, ideas, privacy.
17. Supporting Your Spouse’s … church service and righteous goals.
18. Caring for Your Spouse’s Family by … enjoying their company, praying for them, serving them, overlooking differences.
19. Occasional Gifts … such as a note, a needed item—but mostly gifts of time and self.
20. Loving with All Your Heart. “Thou shalt love thy wife [thy husband] with all thy heart, and shalt cleave unto her [him] and none else.” (D&C 42:22.)
1. I was going to get on and apologize for not blogging for the past few days, but I have promised myself I’m not going to do that and hope you don’t either. Real life and family come first, and if that means blog posts take a back seat, it’s okay. If there is really nothing to say that day, it’s also okay not to post.
2. I saw this on Rachel’s blog and the MomTog Diaries and Design Mom and last year and loved them, so we did it for class Valentines this year:
{take a picture with the fist out, take it on over to picnik and add some stickers and text (under the create tab), have the pictures printed off, punch a hole at the top and bottom of the fist and stick the sucker through.}
Dreary winter days call for a special after-school snack. We love cocoa and cinnamon toast. And when it’s in a pretty tea cup it seems all the more special.
This also brightened my day:

the space on my piano was looking a little sparse, and I wasn’t sure what to fill the numbered tins with in the winter.
Shanty 2 Chic’s Laundry Room!

A message station from Jen@Tatertots and Jello when she guest posted at Brooklyn Limestone (another fabulous blog that could be a whole caught my eye itself)

Do you remember sassy brassy in my front entryway? She’s been needing to come down for a long time now, but I haven’t found anything I’ve loved to replace her with.
Last week on my way back from Blissdom, I was sitting in the Charlotte, NC airport (love that airport because: free wifi!) waiting for my delayed flight and so I ventured onto Craigslist and found a seller in my my city getting rid of a bunch of brass fixtures for $5 each. This one caught my eye:
I loved Nester & Melissa’s workshop at the Wednesday Workshops at Blissdom. Here are some things I took away:
Melissa shared a profound quote (from Barbara Cook, I guess?): * “If you’re able to be yourself, you’ll have no competion.” No one else has your experiences, your outlook, your talents, your take on things. Be the best you can be and lift those around you.
* What is the purpose for your blog? How do you want people to feel when they leave your blog?
In my “about” section I say, “320 Sycamore is about bringing out the charm and potential in our homes and families, with a bit of nonsense and good deals scattered here and there. I am a stay at home mom of 5, I'm so NOT a professional, but I love to look at possibilities of what can "become" with limited time and money.”
That hasn’t changed in two and a half years, but they pointed out that it definitely can. Blogs can evolve over time and your focus may shift.
