Hello and Happy Sherwin-Williams National Painting Week! All week, swpaintingweek.com will feature color inspiration, painting ideas, expert tips, product information and one-of-a-kind projects from DIY design bloggers and professional designers. Then, the big Memorial Day sale will kick off (heads up!) May 17-25 when all paints and stains will be 30% off.
Here is the project that I've been working on.
Good morning! Actually -- this post is about mornings. Our day begins at 6:10 when our oldest gets up to be out the door at 6:45 for carpool. I’m learning that anything that can be done the night before seems to pave the way for a smoother morning. Something that has helped our morning prep time a lot with our girls showering at night. Mostly because they have long hair and it gives them time for it to dry, to braid it for waves, etc.
I have half an hour until the next shift comes up for breakfast/scriptures at 7:15. That is usually my quiet time to read, go over calendar and plan for the day. I’m amazed at how different children can be with waking up. One is like clockwork. The alarm goes off, he’s up and out to the kitchen. My baby (okay, he’s 6 now) still loves to be sleep as long as possible and be carried out to the table with his kitty blanket. Some mornings we are in the older kids’ bedrooms a couple of times trying to get them up and out.
Breakfast is random -- it’s usually cereal, oatmeal, smoothies, toast + cheesy eggs, or an egg sandwich. For special mornings we like to make baked oatmeal (a recipe from my mother-in-law) with blueberries or crepes (a recipe from my dad).
For crazy mornings, we love to keep these on hand: Jimmy Dean breakfast sandwiches! I buy the boxes at Costco.
Hello there! We are back this year with Minted to show some of my favorite card designs for the holidays. I have teamed up with them for the past 3 years because I LOVE them. Their cards, their design, the service, everything. And of course of good deal to share with you at the end. Here are some of my favorites this year:

Fun Facts -- if you don’t want to do a separate letter, this is perfect!
Family Album -- clean and classic.
Welcome to day 30 of 31 days! I have been a crazy cleaning girl because I have been trying out the HomeRight SteamMachine.
I live near a Sherwin-Williams now (hurray!) and I want to tell you why they are *my* paint store now. I’ve loved their colors (hello, kilim beige here and here, pavestone here and ivoire here) but I figured they were an expensive, custom paint store that maybe wasn’t for people like me. When we moved here and began building our home, I started going in to the Provo, Utah store to look at paint colors I had seen online and I began to change my mind. Here’s what I love:
* they have a little play place for my boys so I can actually peruse and look and ask questions without being rushed or worried they would wander over into power tools. And hot cider and a table for me to sit at. ♥
How do you save money on back to school shopping? It begins to seem ridiculous when you pay the participation fees, registration fees, book fees, sports fees, band fees, class party fees, PTA fees = Fee’d to death. I try to concentrate on the things I can actually control how much I spend on -- I love to save money without a lot of effort, so here are a few tips I use for back to school shopping:
Well, today is a happy day because we are giving away three of my favorite books of the summer: The Nesting Place by the Nester (Myquillyn Smith)
A little background: The Nester was the first home décor blog that I discovered almost 6 years ago. I honestly couldn’t believe that there was someone else that loved to go to yard sales and thrift stores and make a beautiful home on a budget and she had made a blog of it!
It’s almost been a year since we’ve been here and we are loving it. As with any move, you can’t help but notice the customs and little tendencies about your new state:
10. It is so family friendly and deal friendly – family passes and discounts everywhere. The pool, bumper boats, discount theaters, miniature golf, baseball and basketball games. There are always good deals to be found!
This was a super hard post to write. Because it involved going to Target and saving money.
Have you heard of Cartwheel at Target?? It is a whole new spin on coupons: download the app on to your phone from the App Store or Google Play. Check which deals you want in everything from groceries-décor-pets-clothing-electronics-the café-younameit and when you go to checkout, show the cashier the barcode on your phone, he/she scans it and you save 5-40%! I.love.it.!!
What if you don’t have a smartphone? Or you have a Windows Phone (like me) No Cartwheel for me…yet. It is honestly my biggest complaint about my phone. I hear they are working on that. But, in the meantime, you can still play!
In the manner of simplifying for the holidays, we have really looked over our traditions to decide which are worth keeping~ the ones that have meaning to our family, add to the purpose of the season, and are worth the time and effort. And which ones really just add to the stress.
Honestly, I have battled with Christmas cards. The whole ordeal of the pictures, the stamps, the addresses, a little family update without sounding too braggy. But then I get pictures and cards from my dear family and friends in my frozen mailbox in December and how I love to put their smiling faces on our pantry door where we can see them every day. And how I cherish the beautiful notes from my Grandmas who still write out a full card every year in their beautiful penmanship~that is becoming a lost art.
I read an article in Real Simple years ago, and was so touched by it that I cut it out and put it in my inspiration binder.
Happy Friday! Here is a super fun contest as we head into the weekend. I can’t stop laughing at the pictures. I especially wish you could see the full cat in the Letter E picture!! :) A huge thank you to Brittany at Pretty Handy Girl for organizing this craziness. Good luck!!
Let's take a ride in that DeLorean parked outside and go back in time. Back to a time before there was Pinterest, Facebook and Twitter. Before chevrons, mercury glass and ombré were hot. And most importantly, before there were blogs! We're going back to when these DIY gals were worrying about how high they could get their hair, was there food in their braces and oh no...not another zit! Talking on the phone for hours meant stretching that long spiral cord beyond its limits and tying up the only phone in the house. Common purchases for these DIY gals may have been the latest cassette tape, neon bracelets, a swatch watch and a tube of clearasil. You wouldn't catch them dead in the hardware store, totally unheard of to the max! Are you there yet? Do you see leg warmers or jelly sandals? You're getting closer...the time machine has stopped so step out of your DeLorean and behold...the time before blogs:
Do you recognize any of these popular DIY bloggers? I don't know how "popular" they were back then. Do you think you could recognize them in High School, Middle School or Elementary School? For sure!
We got a fancy new gift in our kitchen: the Moen Arbor faucet with MotionSense™! Happy New Year to us :)
First, I have to tell you that when we had contractors finishing our basement and I went to pick out faucets for the bathroom, the main contractor told me to do myself a favor and pick out a Moen. He said they may be a little more pricey initially, but they are well worth it in the long run. He said he rarely sees problems with them, they are solid and built to last, and it’s the only brand he would buy personally for faucets. I asked how much they were paying him and went and picked out a Moen for the shower. And, that is what we buy now, so of course I jumped at the chance to try the new Moen MotionSense™ faucet for our kitchen. Coolest faucet ever!

So excited for today’s giveaway! My friend, Marian from Miss Mustard Seed has written her first book! It’s beautiful and I felt like Christmas came a little early when it showed up in my mailbox. Doesn’t the cover alone just make you want to buy it? :)
This giveaway is now closed. The randomly drawn winner is#63, Elizabeth Hunt.
I told you we decided to be a little daring in the kids’ bathroom!
We really wanted a bold framed mirror, but we did NOT want to go through the pain of removing our mirror like we did in our master bathroom. (more on that here) I was able to meet Lisa, the inventor of MirrorMate at Haven in June (so nice!) and asked her if they would work with spray paint to add a kick of color. She kindly sent me home with a sample of the Pacifica to test it out.
