Hello! So, I decided that since I’ve taken most of the summer off from blogging with moving and all of the craziness thatI miss the routine, the creating, the sharing so I’m going to jump back in. Like really jump back in. I’m posting every day this month. Pahhh! The kids are back in school, Landon has a little music preschool 3 times a week, it’s time.
Now, I’m not promising crazy awesome, pinterest perfection posts but more like the blogging I began with. Little thoughts, tips, décor ideas, recipes, deals, and imperfect posts that will get me back into it and hopefully you will enjoy. So, we’re going to count this as day 2, okay? Here we go…see you tomorrow. And the next day. And the next!
We are in Utah. Trying to get settled, moved in, back into somewhat of a normal life. For any of you that have had a big move, you know how physically and emotionally draining and exhausting it is. To leave everything that is familiar and comfortable and recognizable and to come to everything new. Brand new.
Even little things like getting used to like where things are in the grocery store or how the new schools handle snacks and pick up lines, and changing the addresses to your favorite magazines. Walking into a large room of people where everyone seems to know each other and suddenly feeling very alone. And the big things like finding a new family doctor , my husband adjusting to a new position, and praying that your kids will be able to make new friends and feel comfortable. Filling out all of the FORMS. The forms! Probably the worst part, wouldn’t you say?
It’s coming though, and I just have to remind myself that it takes TIME. Time to get to know people, to develop routines, to organize the house so it’s comfortable and things can be found and it can be a lovely place to come home to instead of cardboard boxes and chaos. And trying to determine the bare minimum to unpack because we’ll have to do it all again in less than a year: we are renting right now and have decided to build, and that adds a whole other dimension of stress.
-my mom would always say this to me when it was late at night and I was worrying or stressed about something. It is amazing the new perspective a nap or a new morning can bring, isn’t it?
Thanks, Mom :)
A few things to cross off our before-we-out-west list amidst the chaos of packing up.
One last picnic at the red bridge:
Goodbye, you wonderful old Virginia home. It’s always fun to look back on the befores and afters isn’t it? As I walked through the empty house one last time, I was filled with nothing but gratitude for the chance we had to live in a home and neighborhood that was perfect for our family. Oh how we loved it, we already miss it.
On we go though~

2. Rolling green hills: everywhere else seems rather brown after living here.
Hello.
We are still here. Packing up, up to our necks in moving stuff: packing, taping, throwing out, selling stuff, wanting to take a torch to all of it and just start new at our new home. Moving brings out the best in you, doesn’t it? It truly makes me never want to buy anything again. For now.
I’ve been uncovering L’s everywhere. Landon was so proud that he could write the first letter of his name and he went to town all over the house. Part of me wants to make him scrub them all off so he knows we don’t do that, and part of me wants to cut the drywall out and take it with me and treasure those sweet L’s forever. Emotions are all over the map here.
When we got our appliances, the installation guy said, “Girl! what are you doing getting a nice KitchenAid dishwasher and then a Frigidaire microwave??”
It’s actually been an awesome microwave, no issues for the past 3 1/2 years, and I have loved my dishwasher.

He also told me never to use Jet Dry in my dishwasher, only Cascade rinse aid. I asked him how much Cascade was paying him :) He swore they weren’t, and he’d seen many a dishwasher ruined by it. Hmmmmm.
Another service man came to replace my sister-in-law’s garbage disposal and told her never to use hot water when running it because it wears the gears down. I looked in my disposal manual and sure enough, it said only to use cold water. This isn’t a paid or sponsored post in any way, just thought it would be fun to talk about as I’ve been asked how I’ve like my appliances. They’ve all been great, but I despise plastic bins in refrigerators. Grrrrrr.
I would love to hear~do you have any tips or tales from repair men/women? Do you swear by one appliance brand, or do you just go for what the best deal is?
The last little tablescape in this house! {sigh}
Happy 4th of July to my U.S.A readers ~ remembering all of those that have made and continue to make our freedoms possible.
Thank you.
