** Updated: many of these are out of stock but we have an updated outdoor lighting post here **
Hello, friends! We have talked about pendant lights here, and sconces here, don’t you think it’s about time to talk about outdoor lighting??
As you can see, I love lantern styles, so I rounded up 10 of my favorites under $100 – most are about $50. I think they are just the finishing touch to the outside that say, “my owners care about me enough to pick out pretty lights – and I look expensive, but you’ll never know how much I really cost…well, unless you go look it up online.”
1. Barrie $52
2. Jamestowne $78
3. Parsons Field $99
4. Sutton 4 Light $100 (you can go smaller for less money)
5. Sea Gull $83
6. Brayden $55
7. Harbor $70
8. Transitional $56 OR see this 2 pack for $35!!
9. Castle Creek $40
10. Satin Black Motion $35
Which is your favorite? Or leave a link to one that you love.
I finally picked one out for our new home – do you want to guess which one? I’ll let you know in the comments tomorrow – I need to do a house update post, it’s moving right along!
this front door from Southern Living – yum.

I oould not find the original source for this, only on houzz…anyone??
I have talked about a favorite paint website, colorcharts.org that is no longer in service. I was so sad when I couldn’t go there any longer to match colors from one brand to another. I have found something else though, almost as good! I have no relationship with them, I was just thrilled to find it and share it with you:
It’s called Color-swatches.com and here an example of how it works:
Since Farrow & Ball is based in England, I’m not going to have a store near me. So, I can go to color-swatches.com and go to their search feature. (under Our Services) and then type whatever paint brand I love into the “convert to another brand” section:
* we adore Sandra Boynton books at bedtime! Fantastic prices on these: The Going-To-Bed Book
I’ve had the itch to paint this dresser that I got back in Virginia . And because it has some lovely detailing and nooks and grooves that would be harder to get with a brush, I opted for spray paint. I chose the rustoleum painter’s touch in dark gray. (I bought at Home Depot, but I’ve seen this brand popping up at other stores too)
This is how I spray paint a dresser:
This one did not have a high gloss finish on it, so it was a great candidate for spray paint without a lot of sanding. If your piece has a really high gloss finish, you’ll want to sand or use a liquid sandpaper/de-glosser.
I got this recipe from Elisabeth Beutler, a long-time reader that emailed me a bunch of recipes when I asked for them back here. You know what a big thing it is to find something everyone in the family loves, so as a fellow mom that sometimes really dreads coming up with dinner, I wanted to share with you all. And of course I forgot to take any pictures, so here is one halfway through dishing up when I remembered and it’s really not pretty, but gives you an idea:

A lovely bedroom makeover from Beth at Home Stories A to Z:
* you may know of my love for dormer windows, so it is no surprise that this article was one of my favorite finds this week.
I’ve been seeing a lot of tile accents in bathrooms lately. I think it’s a clever and inexpensive way to add a little detail and oomph.
When we were looking at floorplans, the areas I looked first for were: an entryway where the kitchen couldn’t be seen, a mudroom, and a large pantry. Kind of weird, huh? In previous homes we’ve owned, I’ve seen that if we have a “dropping” area where coats, backpacks, computer bags, keys, homework can go then the rest of the house seems less cluttered. Thus, comes my love for mudrooms. They don’t have to be huge, but a bench and some hooks can restore some sense of order in the bedlam of busy houses.
Here are some of my favorites along with my commentary:
Love that door and the natural light! Sadly, ours won’t have a window because it comes from the garage. Clean, white and bright. And do you notice mudrooms always look the best without the very thing they are meant for? coats, backpacks, etc?
Love the baskets on the sides! I also love benches that are on the ground, it seems to make it much easier to kick off shoes. We would need more hooks though…
Here is another bench on the ground where things can’t disappear under the bottom of a bench. I love the corbels and the moulding at the top. It would be hard for kids to reach the top baskets though, and maybe that’s the point? Here is another very similar one:
I love the dividers and the height of the baskets, but we aren’t going to have enough room to this unless all 7 lockers are very, very skinny. I also loved the closed doors at top.
Look at this smart use of a corner! Love the storage above and below and all of the hooks.
Those windows!! The shoe drawers and the lower hooks for kids and some closed door storage as well. So smart. And expensive as I’m finding out. But I still love looking at them…
Do you love mudrooms or do you think they are really necessary? Which one are you most drawn to? We’re still determining if there will be enough money in our allowances for one to be in our home right away or if it will be a DIY project. I’m not going to lie, it would be SO nice to have it done so we have it ready to use right when we move in…

Happy ♥ Day, friends!
I wouldn’t mind winter hanging around a bit longer if my front door looked like this:
* speaking of winter, how much snow does it take to cancel school in your neck of the woods?? A map:
A few days ago, I asked for help thinking of things to still love about winter on 320 Sycamore’s facebook page. You did not disappoint! Here is what we came up with that will lift you up when winter is feeling really long:
50. cozy blankets draped everywhere
49. no swimsuits
48. it’s easy hide pasty white arms and legs
47. laundry can sit in the washer and not get stinky
46. a perfect time to de-clutter, organize, and work on inside projects
45. sledding
So many wonderful choices! In our last lighting post, Kathleen asked for a pendant light post. I LOVE lighting, it’s like finding the perfect accessory for an outfit, so these posts are fun for me. Here are 20 great options for above a kitchen island or above a sink, over a door, where else do you like to see pendants? Most are well under $100:
15. Maxim Rondo $93
18. Geo Pendant $69
Which one do you like best? I just ordered schoolhouse pendants from Joss & Main, (they aren’t there anymore) but it is a fantastic light resource as well. Have you found any great pendant lights lately? Do tell!

This was a super hard post to write. Because it involved going to Target and saving money.
Have you heard of Cartwheel at Target?? It is a whole new spin on coupons: download the app on to your phone from the App Store or Google Play. Check which deals you want in everything from groceries-décor-pets-clothing-electronics-the café-younameit and when you go to checkout, show the cashier the barcode on your phone, he/she scans it and you save 5-40%! I.love.it.!!
What if you don’t have a smartphone? Or you have a Windows Phone (like me) No Cartwheel for me…yet. It is honestly my biggest complaint about my phone. I hear they are working on that. But, in the meantime, you can still play!
