Did you know that I sold on Ebay as a side job before the world of blogging? I sold some of our own random things, others that I had found at yard sales that I had a hunch might be worth something, and I also sold for some neighbors that had valuable things but didn’t know how to use the computer so I would list items for them and they would pay me for my time.

I don’t have the time for it now, but I still keep my eyes peeled for items that could be WELL worth my time. The best places to find these are at yard/garage/estate sales. Many thrift stores these days have people who are well versed in what items are worth so they catch them before they hit the floor and have their own divisions that sell online. Of course, the condition, year, and style will all make a difference, but here are some to look out for – you never know when you might come across one on an early Saturday morning at a family yard sale.  Heck, maybe your parents have some of these laying around? Anything McIntosh stereo –vintage state of the art, well-built stereos sound enthusiasts LOVE. This one sold for $3,400

Remember the little polly pockets?? A set like this sold for just under $1000. The most desirable ones have the little people with the sets.

Security blankets can bring in big bucks. Think about it: a beloved blanket gets lost and the child won’t sleep without it? It’s amazing what people will pay for a peaceful night.  This bunny one from Fisher Price is most popular and can bring in over $300:

Hello there! It is snowing and beautiful outside, so it completely put me in the mood to put on some Nat King Cole and add some holiday cheer around here.

This weekend was my favorite yard sale of the year. It’s a church sale they have twice a year and they have always had good stuff. The line is forever down the street by the time they open at 8:00, it’s well organized, super nice people, and pretty good prices. I found some good junk :)

Two globes, $3 each (I’m collecting them for something kind of cool!) and the bulletin board underneath for $2. I was SO excited to find the navy one.

Do you remember the .50 shutters I got at the yard sale in August 2010? Of course you do. I know you’ve been wondering and worrying and wringing your hands about what I would do with them. Well, today is your lucky day.

Waaayyyy back at the beginning of the summer, an old school that had closed was having a yard sale.

Why does it make me sad to see old schools close, even though there was a brand new, fancy, technological one to replace it? The flag in the window of the empty classroom just kind of put a lump in my throat…

I wasn’t planning on yard-sale-ing this weekend, but there was a big church yard sale not too far from our house, so my daughters and I went. I could tell it was going to be good because there was a long line waiting for it to open at 8. This is one I will mark on my calendar~everything was completely organized, great junk, low prices.

Well, hello. Happy Monday. We are in the thick of moving back in, end of the school year/sports activities all around, and a million different little projects here and there it seems. No yard sales for me this weekend, but here are some treasures I’ve picked up in the last little while:

Yard Sale 101: Before the Sale

Where do I begin?

First of all, you have to go. I hear lots of, "I never find good things at yard sales." And I find myself just wanting to say, "because you never go, or when you do, it's on the way home from something at 2 p.m. when everything is gone!" It takes a little planning and effort.

It was our neighborhood cleanup this weekend, when everyone puts out what they don’t want and the city comes to pick it up. I plucked up a few things from my neighbor’s piles {thank you, nice neighbors who throw great things away!}

We got a little snow and immediately it put me in the mood for some Christmas decorating. Plus, I'm hosting a baby shower here this weekend, so why not? :) I know we're moving in a few weeks, but I couldn't resist.

I'm really not supposed to be stopping at yard sales on Saturday morning.
We're moving next month...
but I can't help it.
We've had beautiful weather here, so the sales are still going strong. I've had the willpower not to intentionally go yard-saling, but when I see that neon sign when I'm driving down the street, my heart jumps and my hands just automatically jerk the steering wheel in that direction. I can't help it!

But look what I found:
* a brand new Ralph Lauren scarf with the knit flag. ($1) It still has the tags on it. I really want to put that flag on a pillow...but that would mean I would have to sew. It may be just the thing that brings kitty out (my sewing machine..you may get to meet her one day!)

*a big, fat mason jar turned into a lamp ($1)~think of all the things this could be filled with!

* a like new pair of brown Skechers for my daughter ($3) (they kind of blend in with the trunk, so they're hard to see...

and

*Two HUGE framed and matted prints...not interested in the prints necessarily, but am stirring up some ideas for the frames. We don't even know where we'll be living for goodness sake, but these will be coming with us :) How could I leave them for $2 and $3??

I'm going to try to get to my dollar store Thanksgiving project during naptime today, so hopefully I'll have that to show you next.

Hi y'all! Great news to share: we got 2 offers on our house last week and we accepted one this weekend. Woowoowooo-hooo!
Of course it's not a done deal until the money is in the bank, but it's a first huge step in the right direction, right?

So, to celebrate, I bought something.

Last Saturday while our house was being shown, I was driving around with the kids and happened upon a yard sale. I saw this dresser and loved it. I couldn't believe it was still there at 3 in the afternoon.

I have slowly been trying to update my girls' room. I painted the walls Sherwin Williams Ivoire to compliment the yellow and green in the antique furniture. I took all of your advice and didn't paint it and decided to work with it.

We got rid of the bunkbed and remember the trundle daybed I found at a yard sale?

I saw this $2 arrangement at a yard sale and it's not the flowers that caught my eye, but what was underneath it all..
